Cost Effective Culture

“Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” (William Shakespeare)

Though I didn’t find any devils running loose through Island Park in Geneva, Illinois I did stumble upon a fun night of fresh air and free Shakespearian culture courtesy of the Geneva Arts Cultural Arts Commission who offer a yearly presentation of Shakespeare in the park. Check out their website for more info: https://www.geneva.il.us/432/Shakespeare-in-the-Park or follow them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GenevaCulturalArtsCommission/

This year’s play was the Tempest and was overall very well done. Seating was BYOC (bring your own chair) and I would also recommend BYOBS (bring your own bug spray). Sadly, the park is alcohol free so there was no BYOB (bring your own bottle) unless it was water of course. You could also feel free to bring your own snacks and picnics if you desired. Or if you were craving a naughty sweet treat Graham’s Chocolate Shop https://www.grahamschocolate.com/ was on hand to offer up scoops of their famous ice cream (for an extra fee of course).

I would highly recommend this as a great free outing for the whole family. Parents, grandparents, and teenagers will definitely find themselves engaged with the wittiness of a Shakespearian play while younger kids are free to run around, snack, and venture over to the playground when they find their ‘attention span banks’ are empty.

Parting is such sweet sorrow!” (William Shakespeare) But alas, I must now end this post. Enjoy the rest of the summer and don’t forget to check out next year’s Shakespeare in the park!

Cheers!

Love,

Marie
