Dia De Los Muertos Doings

As Halloween draws to a close and Thanksgiving looms on the horizon, we find ourselves at that wonderful time of year for gathering together with family and friends to honor and remember the loved ones that can no longer be with us. Here’s some affordable, family friendly options for celebrating in my neck of the woods. Don’t live here? Check out your local libraries, community centers, park districts, and restaurants for Dia De Los Muertos events near you!

Dia De Los Muertos at the zoo? Yes! It’s true. You can celebrate the Day of the Dead at Brookfield Zoo on October 28-29th, 2023. This is a great option if you already have a zoo pass as admission and parking are included in your membership.

Check out Dia De Los Muertos at the St. Charles Park District. There’s plenty of family friendly fun to be had October 27, 2023, but don’t forget to pre-register with the link provided!

Head over to the Elgin Public Museum on October 28, 2023 to view the Dia De Los Muertos decorations. Admission is only $5.

Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin is offering a FREE Ofrenda Exhibition on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Stop by Indian Prairie Public Library to visit their community ofrenda. Feel free to leave your own memento or picture to remember your loved one.

Or you can do what my family has done the past three years and simply take a walk through your local graveyard to see what stories the gravestones have to tell you. Check out a post entitled Tales From the Crypt from my other blog- Mind of Marie for some unique gravestones and their meanings.

Feliz Dia De Los Muertos!

Cheers!

Love,

Marie
