An Out of This World Kids’ Planetary Book Review

It’s that time of year when it seems like it’s perpetually dark outside. Why not take advantage of the night sky (at 4 in the afternoon) by studying the stars and planets with your kids? Check out these titles for free at your local library or enjoy the read aloud versions that I have linked to on You Tube.

In Margot and the Moon Landing by: A.C. Fitzpatrick a little girl named Margot who is obsessed with space and space travel discovers that the world has no room for dreamers. One day she writes out all her feelings on her bedroom wall. Read this touching story to find out what Margot’s amazing mom does in leu of punishing her.

XO, Exoplanet by: Deborah Underwood is a hilarious explanation of what an exo planet is. In the end the planets and exo planets learn to see things from each other’s point of view and they realize that even if you don’t agree with one another, you can still be friends.

A Place for Pluto by: Stef Wade explores Pluto’s fall from planethood and journey to try to find where he fits in the solar system. Read this out of this world story to see if Pluto ever finds a new place in the galaxy.

Oh, No Astro! by: Matt Roeser introduces us to Astro who is an asteroid with a pretty big personal ‘space’ bubble. Then one day a satellite’s close proximity sends him on a hilarious adventure where he discovers something new about himself and your kids will learn something new about asteroids.

In Luna Muna by: Kelli Gerardi Luna Muna dreams about going to space…literally! Join her as she goes to sleep one night and winds up floating away on an interstellar adventure!

A Big Mooncake for Little Star by: Grace Lin was a really adorable story that familiarizes children with the phases of the moon as Little Star gives in to her cravings and nibbles at the mooncake her and her mother have made.

Pluto Gets the Call by: Adam Rex is another book that explains why Pluto is no longer classified as a planet. Kids will learn loads about space and the power of friendship.

Hope these titles help you and your family have a story time that is truly out of this world!

Cheers!

Love,

Marie
